Learn to Row at SBC


With the Olympics upon us and Great Britain's anticipated success in the rowing events, this is an ideal opportunity to try out rowing!

Staines Boat Club have introduced adult Learn to Row Courses. Each course will last for a period of four weeks and will run on Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm. The course will provide all the basic skills needed to gain a good understanding of the sport, and will include:

  • Introduction to the rowing stroke on the indoor rowing machine (ergo)
  • Introduction to the equipment used - the parts of the boat and oars
  • Getting in and out of the boat
  • Building rowing strokes
  • Rowing in time together as a whole crew
  • Fine tuning bladework, power application, balance and teamwork

At the end of the course you will be offered the chance to join a competitive squad and start racing for the club.

The cost of the course is £90 and includes temporary membership of Staines Boat Club and membership of the Amateur Rowing Association (for insurance purposes).
