On a very wet and windy December night, the junior parents braved the elements along with the Staines Rotary Club to go on a Christmas Door to Door collection, with Jeremy Pollen as Santa. Our share of the amount raised was £250 and this was collected from the Rotary by Jeremy.
The money raised is going into the Boathouse fund. A very big thank you to everyone who helped out.

From Peter Harvey:
The Staines Boat Club Junior Women’s Squad were racing this weekend in wild ’n’ windy conditions on the river Thames at Weybridge. The Weybridge Winter Head of the River competition is a timed race over 3000 metres upstream form Walton to Weybridge. The prize, a winner’s medal goes to the fastest crews in each of the Junior age groups racing.
The Staines Boat Club girls were competing in a number of age categories and achieved a favourable set of results. They had an exciting win in the Women’s Junior 14 double sculls event where the Staines Boat Club crew Georgia Conner & Abigail Mason, time exactly matched that of rival competitors form Henley Rowing Club. Whilst rowing over the course both the crews were able to see each other which just increased the pressure of the race. Spectators, supporters and the Rowing Coaches following this race from the riverbank could see that the times surely must be a close. It was a Surprize for all to learn the official time and result which was a dead heat. Both crews were therefore able to claim the first place title and extra medals were found and awarded to all the girls in both the crews.
The Staines Boat Club Junior Squad will be racing again next weekend the Dorney Lake near Windsor which is the venue for this year’s Olympic Rowing Regatta. The junior crews will be racing over the same distance as the Olympic competitors which will be a fantastic experience.

From President Ian McHugh:
The annual SBC Veteran's Dinner (apparently the 82nd!) was held at The Swan yesterday afternoon and it was a very enjoyable event. Guest of Honour was Mr Dave Lusty of Molesey Boat Club.
Following the meal, an auction raised £270 for the club and a collection for clubhouse bricks raised a further £210.
A memorial bench, kindly provided by The Swan, was also unveiled in memory of club stalwart Ted Dyos.

The annual boxing day match versus Burway RC took place earlier today on the Burway stretch. The Staines crew took an early lead and started to pull away, but whilst passing through the narrow section the two crews clashed. The 4 man in the Staines crew lost control of his blade, and whilst he regained it the Burway crew nipped ahead. They went onto to win by around a length.
So onto next year then - on the Staines stretch!
