ROGER MOULDING – a 40 year long member, a Past President, President of the Regatta committee, and a strong supporter of anything to do with the sport of rowing, has passed away.
Staines Boat Club members offer their condolences to his wife Kathleen, and family who were present at his bedside during his final moments.
“Roger” played many a role within the structure of SBC during his long involvement with us. His term of President also coincided with his capacity as organising influence of Staines Regatta. He became Chairman and latterly President of that too.
Don Moore, also a past President commented “he was a good bloke to have in that position – you could always rely on him to see things through”
Further memories came from Graham Thomas and Peter Smith who were young coxn's when Roger joined. They thought him to be a “real gentlemen” who always asked how their crews had raced over the weekend’s regatta. They have not forgotten that enthusiasm from Roger even after 30 years.
He was a keen sculler, finding time to train early mornings did not endear him to other river users, and notably the fishermen with whom he had what he called a “vigorous question and short answer discussion”. He overcame these minor problems in his stride, helping him to peak fitness and resulting in a win – amongst many others, at the National Championships in his age category. Always thinking of the club, Roger who had purchased a new sculling boat, realised that a gentle retirement was the order of the day, promptly passed “Tamesis” on to the club.
The green and white striped flag of SBC, now flying at half mast, indicates yet another great loss to the club of a man who will be well remembered by those who knew him.
Roger's funeral will take place on Thursday 11th March at the Church of Assumption, at 11am, in Englefield Green. No flowers by request, and any donations to Cancer Research.

With many new faces, and also for those with hazy memories, we are going to have a presentation outlining safety at the club, particulary on the water (e.g. when you should turn etc etc).
It will cover: - Examples of when it goes wrong - River Rules & the Basics - Hazardous Points on the River - River Conditions - Official Procedures
This will be on Sunday 28th March, at 11am, in the club. Our neighbouring clubs are to be invited too.

On a cold and crispy Sunday we took four women's crews to Bedford 4s and 8s. The ladies did us proud with the WIM2 4x winning their category and there were good results for the other crews: WN 4+ came 4th and in the WIM3 4x category (Musk) came 2nd and (Lock) came 6th. Well done to all the crews and big thanks to the supporters and Bedford RC.

We had several entries entered at Thames Valley Trial Head, held over 1900m at Dorney Lake yesterday. Despite the bitter cold, we achieved some excellent results:
WJ17 2x - 1 of 9 (7:58) Abi Musk & Heather Jones
WJ15 1x - 20 of 24 (9:50) Shannon Horan
WJ14 2x - 11 of 17 (9:02) Molly Lock & Lucy Constant
WJ13 4x+ - 2 of 10 (8:43) Georgia Conner, Christina Cackett, Maddie Shoolbred, Emily Tench and Cox Abigail Mason
The double of Abi and Heather was the second fastest (of 34 crews) double of the whole day, including senior women, and only four seconds away from being the fastest overall! Well done all!!!
