The Environment Agency has now updated their advice prohibiting all but essential river use. This means that the current ban on using Club single sculls has been extended to privately owned single sculls too. We will continue to monitor the restrictions and bans in place and will look to ease boating and training restrictions as soon as it is considered safe. In the meantime, to stay fit, please join in the online fitness sessions being run by Maddie Shoolbread on Monday and Wednesday evenings and possibly also at the weekends. Another Rowing Event falls victim to the 2020 curse. The beginning of the year saw events cancelled due to storms and flooding, then along came COVID-19. The hopes from the athletes for a good summer schedule after months of winter training for Heads that never happened, have been shattered. However these troubling times have created a new sense of community with some of the Coaches creating video training sessions for the whole club to join into to train from home. Dear Members, When I took over as President of the Club a few years’ ago, I never for one moment imagined I would need to take the steps we are now having to take as a Club. I know that these measures will be hard on you all and will significantly affect the Club but we do not have any option. Recent changes to Government advice as well as advice provided by British Rowing and other national sports governing bodies and the severity of the situation mean we have no choice. At the moment, with all the Coronavirus infections going around, we would ask everyone who comes down to the Club to take a number of sensible precautions. While most of the people who come down to the Club are fit and healthy, not everyone that we meet elsewhere is so fortunate, be it family, friends or random strangers we pass in the street. Please take extra time to wash your hands properly, avoid physical contact with others, clean ergos after use, etc. If you think you might be infected, let your coach know and please do not come down.
